Food / Artisan Bread Mix

Bread!  Bread is a fundamental food.  We have “breaking of the bread”, sharing of bread, and so many rituals around bread.  It is something that you share, it brings people together, there is nothing like having the smell of warm bread baking in your oven.   I believe that anybody can make bread but most people think it is too difficult.  Imagine making bread with your child in the evening – it takes two minutes, and in the morning there is fresh bread for breakfast and the smell of freshly baked bread wafting up the stairs!

In this fast-paced society, it is a moment to slow down and break the bread.

Bitter Bean Artisan Bread Mix is a special organic bread mix that allows you to quickly and easily create beautiful, crusty, rustic-style bread. Preparation time is about the same as that of making a cup of tea! Everything you need is in the pack. Just add two cups of water, combine, and voila!

Here is a very short video showing how it’s done:

And here’s a longer version:

I have several different type of breads – all from organic flour.

Preparation instructions

  1. Pour the bread mix into a big bowl.
  2. Add 2 cups of room temperature water (500 ml).
  3. Combine bread mix with the water in the bowl, until there is no loose flour (takes around 2 min). There is no need to knead.
  4. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and leave overnight on the bench at room temperature (10-15 hours).
  5. In the morning pre heat the oven (fan forced) to 250°C. Sprinkle a generous amount of flour (around ½ a cup) on the bench, and gently pour the dough onto the flour. The dough will be full of bubbles and very sticky. Try to keep the bubbles and do not press the dough.
  6. Pull the dough gently to form a square shape, and then roll it gently to bread shape; the length should be around 30-40cm.
  7. Put the bread gently on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  8. Bake at 250°C for 30-40min. The bread is ready when it is golden brown and when you tap on the bottom crust it sounds hollow.
  9. Rest on a rack for 15min.
  10. Share with family and friends.
